Lake streets near Secret Lake Park and Lake Concord
The city counts more than 24 lakes inside its limits, with Lake Howell, Lake Kathryn and the three Triplet lakes among the largest. Secret Lake Park, with its boardwalk and two fishing piers, and Lake Concord Park, which surrounds City Hall, are the landmarks callers most often give us when they describe where they live.
Low lots beside water collect runoff, and a yard that stays soggy after a storm pushes water toward cleanouts and slab edges. After a heavy rain, lift the cap on any outdoor cleanout and look for standing water, then check floor drains and the garage corner by the water heater. Tell the dispatcher which lake or park is nearest so the truck finds the right street the first time.
Summerloch Green: three floods in six years
Summerloch Green, a 55-plus community, was hit by Hurricane Irma in 2017 and flooded again after Hurricane Ian in September 2022, according to news coverage. In November 2023 it took water after several days of rain, when a weir blocked with debris had to be opened by city crews.
If water has been inside your home, treat the water heater, outlets and gas appliances as unsafe until they are checked. Also ask a plumber to inspect floor drains, cleanouts and the sewer line for backflow before you go back to normal use, because floodwater can push sewage up through low fixtures.
Ridge Drive, Tanglewood and the meter line
On December 17, 2021, a water main broke on Ridge Drive in the Tanglewood subdivision near High Street. News reports say service returned around 4:30 that afternoon and the city did not need to issue a boil notice.
The city says it owns the main up to the meter, and the customer owns the pipe from the meter to the house. For a break on the street side, the city's main-break line is (407) 262-7725 Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and (407) 262-7613 after hours. Everything between the meter and your walls is yours, and that stretch is where we work.
Which side of the meter is leaking
A few minutes at the curb tells you whether to call the city or us.
- Find the meter box near the curb and lift the lid. Wet soil or bubbling on the street side of the meter points to the city.
- Close the main valve where the line enters your house, then watch the meter's small leak-indicator wheel or dial for movement.
- A dial that keeps turning with every fixture off means water is escaping between the meter and the house valve, which is on your side.
- Look for a green, soft strip of lawn or a warm wet patch on a slab floor. Both can follow a buried line.
- Photograph the meter reading and the wet area before anyone digs.
Before we arrive in Casselberry
Close the house valve
Turn the main shutoff where the line enters the house clockwise until it stops. If it will not move, do not force it with a wrench. Tell the dispatcher and we plan for a stuck valve.
Cut power near the water
Switch off breakers for wet rooms and for an electric water heater if the tank or wiring is wet. Never step into standing water to reach a panel.
Decide who owns the leak
Water in the street or bubbling beside the meter on the city side is a call to the city's main-break line first. Anything inside the lot line, call us.
Document and protect
Photograph the water line on walls and damaged items for your insurer, lift rugs, and keep children and pets out of standing water. Lake overflow can carry sewage.
Our emergency line answers 24/7, so a dispatcher can pick up while you do these steps. If you smell gas, leave the home and call 911 first, then your gas utility.
The tap water and the 2014 boil notice
Casselberry runs its own utility, drawing water from the Floridan aquifer through three treatment plants with three wells each. On December 25, 2014, a chlorine system malfunction led to a boil-water notice for about 27,500 customers north of SR 436 and Red Bug Lake Road, which was lifted on December 27.
After any notice, run cold taps for a few minutes and flush the ice maker line. Replace refrigerator and under-sink filter cartridges. We checked the city's 2025 water quality report and it lists sodium but not hardness, so we will not guess a number. A hardness test strip from a hardware store gives you your own reading.
Homes from every decade, and what the walls hold
Housing units in the city grew from 8,808 in 1990 to 11,803 in 2017, per a UF GeoPlan profile of Census data. That means roughly three of every four units standing in 2017 were already there in 1990, and about 2,400 more were added between 2000 and 2010. The city's timeline records neighborhoods platted as early as 1927 and 1928.
Age alone does not tell us which pipe is behind your drywall, so we look instead of assuming. The same timeline notes a sinkhole on Northmoor Road in May 1965 that swallowed a house. That is one old event, not a risk map, but new floor cracks or a sudden low spot in the yard deserve a call.
Fern Park and the 32730 ZIP
Fern Park sits next to Casselberry but is unincorporated Seminole County, not part of the city, according to the city's own history page. Its mail uses ZIP 32730, which the post office also files under Casselberry.
Your utility and permit office depend on which side of the line your address falls, so check your water bill before you call. We dispatch to Fern Park the same way we do to the city.
Common Casselberry plumbing jobs
Slab and yard moisture problems start with finding the leak without tearing up the floor, and a broken line gets fixed through burst pipe repair. Damage between the meter and the house is handled as water service line repair.
Roots and grease behind a slow drain call for sewer line cleaning. The city's Building Division, at (407) 262-7700 option 5, says residential permits can take 5 to 7 business days, and we found no published water heater permit rule, so ask them before scheduling planned work.
Crews dispatched from Altamonte Springs also work in nearby Winter Springs and Maitland.

Casselberry plumbing questions
Yes. ZIP 32707 is the main Casselberry ZIP and takes in City Hall, Secret Lake Park, Lake Concord and the lake streets. ZIP 32730 is the Fern Park area, which is unincorporated county land, and 32718 is a PO box ZIP with no street delivery. We dispatch to all of them.
Yes. Our emergency line answers 24/7, including nights, weekends and holidays, and a licensed plumber is sent from Altamonte Springs. Same-day appointments are available for non-urgent jobs when the schedule allows.
Call the city. The main-break line is (407) 262-7725 Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and (407) 262-7613 after hours. The city owns the main to the meter, and anything from the meter to your house belongs to the customer.
We could not find a published rule, so ask the Building Division at (407) 262-7700 option 5. The city's FAQ says residential permits can take 5 to 7 business days, which matters if you can wait. If the tank has already failed, call us first and we will tell you what to ask.
The city pages we checked do not say, so ask Casselberry Utilities at (407) 262-7725 option 3. A camera inspection shows exactly where a blockage or break sits, which makes that conversation with the city much simpler.
Often it is a drainage problem first, but floodwater can overload a sewer cleanout or back up a floor drain. Cap checks and a camera run show whether the plumbing is taking on water. The city's utility handles the public side.
We could not find a hardness figure in the city's 2025 water quality report, so we will not quote one. Buy a hardness test strip and check your tap. If you see white scale on fixtures or on the heater element, tell us when you call.
